Turbotail is a drop-in replacement for the original (GNU-)tail program which uses the SGI FAM daemon (which is included in all major Linux distributions like Debian) instead of polling every second(!).

Due to the use of DNOTIFY, this tail should react instantly to file changes.

Installation:

make
to create the executable.

make install
to copy turbotail to /usr/bin

make installreplace
to get the original tail renamed to /usr/bin/tail.org and have turbotail copied to /usr/bin/tail

What's New in This Release:
turbotail now uses the FAM daemon so it should now also compile & run on other UNIX platforms as well
