Goggles Music Manager is a music collection manager and player. Goggles Music Manager allows you to easily manage your music collection.

Each song in your collection is organized according to Artist and Album. As of now, Goggles Music Manager supports Ogg Vorbis and MP3 files.

Requirements:
  • xine-lib 1.0
  • FOX 1.4 (stable)

    Installation:

Untar the zip file and go into the newly created directory

    > tar -xvzf musicmanager-0.5.2.tar.gz
    > cd musicmanager-0.5.2

Run the Goggles Build script 'gb' to start compiling Goggles Music Manager. There are several command line options you may have to specify when running this script. For a complete overview of all options use:

    >./gb --help

We assume that all required packages are installed in /usr. If thats not the case, you can change the installation prefix for each package on the commandline (for example):

    >./gb --fox-prefix=/usr/local --xine-prefix=/usr/local
    --ogg-prefix=/usr/local --sqlite-prefix=/usr/local

If everything compiled fine, you are ready to install Goggles Music Manager in its final location. By default this will be in /usr. Using the --prefix option you can tell gb to install it somewhere else.

    > su
    > ./gb install [--prefix=/usr/local]

    Run Goggles Music Manager

    > gmm

The first time you start Goggles Music Manager, it will come up with a empty song database. In order to enjoy your music collection you first need to fill up the song database.

To add songs to the database, open up the file menu and select "New". It will pop a dialog asking you to select from which directory you like to add songs from.

Once you press "Ok", Goggles Music Manager will add all Ogg Vorbis files located in the choosen directories and its subdirectories. Note this may take a while when you a have huge collection of songs. You only need to do this once. If you want to add new songs to the database use the "import" command in the file menu.

If everything was succesfull, the database should have been filled up. Select any genre, then artist, and finally select the album and double click on the song you want to listen to.

    What's New in This Release:
  • FOX 1.6. support.
  • Support for FLAC and musepack.
  • A new progress dialog during file scanning, which also includes the ability to cancel the scanning at any time.
  • Now depends on taglib for reading and writing tags.
  • The ability to hide status bar.
  • Support for playing a file from the command line.
  • Only allows one gmm to be started, and sends play requests to an already running gmm.
