OggCarton is a free, open source, home jukebox system that rips, indexes, and manages playlists for Ogg Vorbis music files. OggCarton a web server for playing files on your home network. Compatible with existing MP3 files.
Beta source code and binary installers are available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. Please be sure to report any bugs you may encounter. Though the web server includes access control, you may want to run the web server behind a firewall for an additional layer of security against unauthorized users accessing your music files.
Here are some key features of "OggCarton":
OggCarton is not designed for illegal distribution of music, nor is it particularly suited for doing so (it is not a "file-sharing" or peer-to-peer program and there is no net-wide file search capability). Ripping your own CDs for your own personal use is legal in the United States (and most other countries). Distributing the files to other people is not. As the good folks at Apple say, "Don't steal music." You don't want the karma, and you especially don't want the RIAA's lawyers knocking at your door.
Requirements:
Installation:
1. Extract the files with:
tar -xzvf OggCartonInstaller-Linux-1.0beta.tar.gz
2. Change into the OggCarton directory produced in the first step.
3. Become root.
4. Execute the command:
./installer
If you are running Gnome, OggCarton will be added to your Main Menu under Programs/Multimedia.
To run OggCarton from the Linux command line, simply enter the command:
oggcarton
