Open Searchable Image Catalogue (OSIC) is a system for storing large numbers of image files with associated metadata.
This data can later be used to search the database for images. Open Searchable Image Catalogue works particularly well where the images need to be accessible to a large number of people or over a large geographical distribution.
Images can be compressed (and decreased in size) on-the-fly so that they can be viewed quickly over a slow network such as the Internet.
Requirements:
Server
PHP with GD and EXIF enabled. You may also need to increase the amount of memory a script is allowed to use by editing the php.ini file.
MySQL server
Client
Web browser
Sun Java Run-time Environment (JRE) if uploading files. Not required for searching.
Installation:
Uncompress the archive to a directory in your web server’s htdocs.
Configure PHP so that you have GD and EXIF support.
Create folders: itemdata, uploads, thumbnailcache or specify their location in config.php
Make sure PHP can write to these three folders.
Edit config.php to customize settings.
Create MySQL database as specified in config.php
Run setup.php to populate database. Or use osic.sql. The setup.php script uses variables in config.php to create tables with correct names.
The following steps only apply if using the ZUpload applet. The default is the JUpload applet.
Configure your FTP server. Create a user with a password and make thier home directory the OSIC uploads directory.
Open http://yourserver/osicpath/admin.php and click on Setings. Change the Upload Applet Tag so that it will log on to the ftp server correctly. Continue to use admin.php modify settings and to start adding catalogues, categories and items to your OSIC database.
