debian-updates is a simple script that sends an email or displays console messages if any relevant Debian security updates become available. debian-updates is ideal for running from cron.

Requirements:
  • The script is written in perl, and requires the use of only the LWP::Simple, and the Compress::Zlib modules - along with a connection to the internet.

    What's New in This Release:
  • This release improves the handling of reporting available security fixes.
  • It does this by matching both on the Debian source package names and the binary packages that were built from them.
  • To keep up with the Debian project's security advisories, this release also handles advisories numbered above 1000.
