kpad is integrated just enough with KDE to be a kde application. It will use your KDE theme and settings. kpad also uses alot of straight Qt as well as a lot of low level (faster) linux functionality.

kpad does not conform to KDE application specifications and therefore is something new and hopefully usefull. kpad has a Tabbed Multi-Document interface, opens and saves files straight from and to FTP servers. and acts like a full FTP client.

It opens HTML source code via http, sends utf8 mail via smtp to local or remote MTA, supports full use of all international fonts and font encodings including unicode and can convert one to the other, automatic syntax highlighting for c/c++, java, python, and html files, plus the usual editor stuff, spellcheck, search, search/replace, goto line, etc.

What's New in This Release:
fixed a non-null terminated response buffer in the SMTP code that would in rare situations cause breakage.
fixed libstdc headers to modern format
rebuilt autotools to fix reports of a sometimes link failure on build
7/6/05 i fixed where the spell checker was not marking the buffer dirty when it changed words and since this seemed like a major bug i changed the version # to 1.0.1.
