openMSX is the MSX home computer system emulator that aims for perfection.
Almost all MSX machines are emulated: MSX1, MSX2, MSX2+, Turbo-R... And also quite some extra hardware is emulated: SCC, SCC+, FM-PAC, Music Module, PSG, Moonsound, Sunrise IDE, Disk Controllers, MIDI, almost all memory mappers, etc... Actually, more than any other MSX emulator!
It also features quite some extras: rendering using openGL acceleration, full screen, built in console (based on TCL), MSX debugging facilities, scalers, using directories as disk images (still buggy though), screenshots, speed settings, frame skip, scanlines, TV-blur, afterglow (GL), and more...
For a really long description: again, please see our home page.
Do note that openMSX is alpha software, which means that some things work but not all features are implemented yet.
gcc 3.2 or higher (or ICC 8.0)
What's New in This Release:
Printer logger and SRAM are flushed at regular intervals now, so if openMSX or your PC crashes, it is less likely you will lose data.
Settings that have their default value are not saved anymore, which will make future upgrades easier (new defaults are automatically picked up).
Added support for a second keyjoystick.
More extensive debugging, including conditional break points.
Apart from communication via stdio, communication via sockets is now enabled.
V9990: speed improvements, enabled scalers, scanline and blur.
Reorganisation of renderers and scalers (including new ones).
Screenshot command has a -prefix option, useful in combination with the new "guess_title" script: give meaningful names to your screenshot.
New "fullspeedwhenloading" setting. When enabled, openMSX automatically switches to maximum speed when the MSX is loading from disk or tape.
New "autoruncassettes" setting. When enabled and you specify a CAS image on the command line or in Catapult, openMSX will automatically type the required loading instruction in MSX-BASIC.
