Aphid is a script for quickly compiling and installing the Apache Web server with mod_ssl. Aphid provides a facility for bootstrapping SSL-enabled Apache web servers (mod_ssl) with an embedded Perl interpreter (mod_perl). Source is downloaded from the Internet, compiled, and the resulting system is installed in the directory you specify.

Aphid will you ask a few questions at the controlling terminal then point you to a web page where you need to authenticate and specify a few more options. After you click the confirmation button the program moves through download, decompression, compilation and installation steps; showing you a web page that updates with the overall progress every seconds. Before exiting Aphid starts up the new Apache web server and redirects your web client to its main page.

The Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate files accompanying the distribution are not PEM-encoded and are only suitable to get your server configured and tested. To create your own secure certificate files for the new server see http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.6/ssl_faq.html#ToC28 and replace the defaults located in conf/ssl with new ones. Note that if the SSL option is chosen, the OpenSSL programs, documentation, and the mod_ssl sign.sh utility are all installed by default.

What's New in This Release:
