Ota is a tool to organize, index, archive, and web publish your digital photography collection. Whether you use a simple point-and-shoot digital camera, or scan your photographs from a megabuck film scanner after having captured it on your megabuck film SLR, this KDE/QT and Berkeley DB based tool will help you organize your digital photography.
iOta allows the user to generate uniquely rename and index images to an embedded database, generate thumbnails and browsable HTML indexes, archive directories of images onto CDR, and caption and describe each photograph in the user's collection.
In addition, all this information also travels with the image itself in the thumbnail EXIF header.
The organization methodology has been an amalgamation of some experience with almost 15000 digital images from my Olympus point-and-shoot and Canon Digital Rebel cameras, a lot of reading, especially John Shaw's definitive guide, and browsing a lot of web pages.
iOta is constantly evolving, as I stumble across better ideas or as my needs grow. At this point, I would suggest that you glance through the iOPlan document, as iOta is based completely off that philosophy.

What's New in This Release:
Continuing with the "big" and basic changes theme, version 0.8 is a fully self-contained KDE package for digital image organization. We have removed any and all dependencies on ImageMagick due to the ever-increasing incompatibility between the various versions (even minor version numbers). Now, iOta does all image manipulation through the Qt Image and Pixbuf classes.
In addition, considerable bug fixes to the UI have been made to iOta by Richard Taylor.
Bug fixes relating to iOta crashes and renaming of duplicate images have been provided by Richard Taylor.
Due to this dependence-removal, a lot of ImageMagick related bug fixes have gone into this release.
