muCommander project is a cross-platform file manager that has a Norton Commander style interface and running on any operating system with Java support (Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, Linux, *BSD...).
Here are some key features of "muCommander":

Requirements:
Java Runtime Environment 1.3.0 (JRE) or later is required to run muCommander.
JRE 1.4 is recommended

Improvements:
Improved internal file attributes caching mechanism to lower CPU and memory usage

FTP Passive mode not turned on when entering an FTP URL in location text field

Fixed a bug under Mac OS X which prevented preferences to be written when a preferences file from v0.5 was found
Known issues:
Slow TAR and Zip extraction for small files because extraction is not performed sequentially (yet)
Mac OS X-specific files not transferred properly
Image viewer doesn't free memory properly under Mac OS X
Folders cannot be renamed to upper/lower case variations of the same name
Pipe '|' and other shell operators cannot be used in 'Run Command'
What's New in 0.8 Beta2 Release:
This release adds SFTP support, universal bookmarks, auto-adjusting columns, interruptible folder changes, file type column, a new icon set, a free/total volume space indicator, right-click contextual menus, a folder change progress bar, in-table renaming, and traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, and Slovenian translations.
