SoundCard Plugin is an input plugin for XMMS which enables to read audio data directly from the soundcard.
Using the plugin you can now use your computer with the XMMS player as a powerful sound processor with any of XMMS' effect plugins, such as, equalizer or echo effects.
In particular, this plugin in combination with the FIR filter plugin enables you to use your PC as a DSP to process audio data in real-time using long FIR filters without any need for dedicated DSP hardware.
Requirements:
XMMS
Usage:
Open the preferences in xmms (CRTL-P), select the Input Plugins tab, and and enable the plugin. Then open the "Play Location" (CTRL-L) dialog and enter
soundcard://< path-to-your-sound-device >
which typically is /dev/dsp, that is
soundcard:///dev/dsp
Note the three slashes (///)! When you do this the time should start running and the song title should say:
1. SOUNDCARD: /DEV/DSP
You can now plug in an audio source to your line/SPDIF/mic input and you should see the bars in spectrum analyzer moving.
Known Issues:
This plugin has not been heavily tested at all. It works on my Acer laptop with the ALSA ali5451 driver.
The sampling rate is currently fixed at 44.1 kHz.
