Towel is a fairly basic program to play audio files. It works as a front-end to GStreamer to play both MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files.
Towel runs on GNU/Linux and FreeBSD, using the C++ bindings for GTK+ 2.4.x and gtkmm 2.4.x.
Requirements:
GStreamer version 0.6.1 or newer source-compatible release
gtkmm version 2.4.0 or newer source-compatible release
libxml++ version 2.6.0 or newer source-compatible release
The following are optional:
id3lib version 3.8.0 or newer source-compatible release. Required for MP3 metadata support.
libvorbis version 1.0 or newer source-compatible release. Required for Ogg Vorbis metadata support.
FLAC version 1.0.0 or newer source-compatible release. Required for FLAC metadata support.
GStreamer requires glib 2.0.0 or newer and libxml2, gtkmm-2.4.0 requires gtk+ 2.4.0 or newer, with all its supporting libraries, glibmm-2.4.0 or newer, and libsigc++-2.0.0 or newer. Libxml++ requires libxml2 2.5.8 or newer. See the web pages for these libraries for more details on their current status and their dependencies, where to get them and how to build them.
Installation:
1. Run "./configure" to configure Towel's Makefiles for your system.
2. Run "make" in the toplevel directory of the source tree. This will build Towel. The Makefiles will only work with the BSD or GNU versions of "make".
3. (Optional) Install Towel to the system by running "make install" as root.
4. Run "./towel" (or simply "towel" if you have done "make install" to a directory in your path) to start Towel.
